PEWAUKEE– As Wisconsin’s economy continues to improve, nine companies have received the prestigious Business Friend of the Environment Award for leadership in pollution prevention, environmental innovation and environmental stewardship, WMC announced Thursday.
“Our economy is rebounding and these companies clearly demonstrate that you can protect the environment and have a successful business even in challenging economic times,” said Kurt R. Bauer, WMC president/CEO. “Wisconsin employers added 9,800 jobs in March, businesses are creating jobs and our business climate is improving, albeit slowly,” Bauer added.
“When businesses are clean and efficient they protect the environment and can offer employees higher wages and benefits,” Bauer said.
The 2011 Business Friend of the Environment Awards is presented by the Wisconsin Environmental Working Group® (WEWG), an affiliate of WMC.

An independent panel of judges representing industry, an environmental group, the Department of Natural Resources, and academia select the Business Friend of the Environment winners. Awards were presented at a luncheon at the Country Springs Conference Center in Pewaukee.
WMC is the state’s largest business association, representing 3,500 employers who provide jobs to nearly 500,000 Wisconsin residents.
