Court Protects Wisconsin from Devastating Emission Rules
MADISON – The Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce (WMC) heralded a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that said the federal EPA violated the Clean Air Act when it attempted to unilaterally impose emissions standards on coal-fired power plants without conducting economic impact reviews.
WMC President/CEO Kurt R. Bauer said:
“This is a great ruling for Wisconsin because we are heavily reliant on coal for energy in our state and the proposed emission standards would have driven up energy bills for all energy users. The EPA needs to go back to the drawing board and conduct the economic impact review, and they will find that the economic impact is devastating and the rule will hopefully die under the weight of the economic devastation it would impose.”
