WMC Files Amicus Brief Supporting Regulation Reform
MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the state’s chamber of commerce, Wednesday signed onto an amicus brief with the Wisconsin Supreme Court urging the court to allow the Governor to veto rules and allow the legislature to set our state’s education policy.
WMC supports broad regulatory reforms allowing the Governor to veto rules proposed by agencies, a reform passed by the Legislature as Act 21 in 2011. Until Act 21, governors were unable to play a direct role in controlling rules created by agencies. WMC filed the amicus brief along with a coalition of groups that support regulatory reform.
WMC Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley said:
“The issue in the case centers on whether we as a state want accountability with respect to education policy. The Constitution gives the Wisconsin Legislature the authority to establish education policy, and the reforms at issue in this case were enacted to ensure that the Legislature’s will is appropriately carried out by the Executive Branch. We hope the Court will uphold this important aspect of our system of checks and balances in state government.”
