Manufacturing Honor Bestowed this October
MADISON – The competition is hot for the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest.
In fact, it’s so hot that so far 156 products made in our state are already vying for the top prize, the honor to be called: “The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin.” Learn more at www.madeinwis.com.
Will it be a cheesehead? Will it be an Allen-Edmonds shoe? Will it be Jack Links? Will it be Kringle? Will it be craft beer? Will it be a fire engine? Will it be a yacht? Will it be a freezer or an ice machine, which may have an edge since it’s a competition for the coolest thing.
“From Plateville to Green Bay, from Kenosha to Superior, Wisconsin is home to a manufacturing heritage that is steeped in a tradition that pre-dates statehood,” said Kurt R. Bauer, WMC president/CEO. “That legacy continues to this day. Manufacturing is our state’s ‘super sector’ that creates high-wage jobs that foster the creation of even more jobs in other sectors.”
The contest is being sponsored by WMC, the state’s chamber of commerce, and Johnson Financial Group.
Peter X. Engel, Executive Vice President Johnson Financial Group, said manufacturing is critical to a strong economy and we should celebrate our heritage.
“We make great products in our state,” said Engel. “Hundreds of them are world famous. Some of them are obscure. But we are a state that makes things – cool things – and that should be celebrated. In Wisconsin, we have made cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, shoes, cheese, cheese curds, cheeseheads, beer, brats, mining equipment, refrigerators, freezers, yachts, and we have also been central to cutting edge production and innovation that has made our world a better place.”
Nominations continue to be accepted at www.madeinwis.com and voting will begin online in September. The award will be presented at the State of Wisconsin Business Luncheon in Madison in October.
Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) is the state’s chamber of commerce and manufacturers’ association. WMC represents 3,800 employers of all sizes and from every sector of the economy.
