WMC Testifies Against Legislation that Would Eliminate “White Bagging” and Result in Higher Health Care Costs for Employers, Employees

WMC’s Director of Workforce, Education & Employment Policy Rachel Ver Velde testified at the Senate Committee on Insurance, Licensing and Forestry against Senate Bill 753/Assembly Bill 718, legislation that would eliminate “white-bagging.” “White-bagging” is a process that delivers clinically administered drugs directly to providers. With ever-rising health care costs, this is a necessary tool to address significant hospital mark-ups and keep medications reasonably affordable.

In testimony, WMC explained that the high cost of health care has consistently been a top concern of WMC’s membership over the years, because Wisconsin is an outlier when it comes to the cost of healthcare. In 2021, a study conducted by WalletHub found that Wisconsin is the 9th highest state for cost of healthcare nationwide.
