MADISON – Following the announcement that Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu and Governor Tony Evers came to a tentative agreement on education funding, the Wisconsin Coalition for Education Freedom (WCEF) issued the following statement:
“Parents across Wisconsin owe gratitude to Speaker Robin Vos and Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu. Through their leadership, Wisconsin will once again be a leader in education freedom and empowering parents.
“The agreement announced today was made possible by their focused leadership and the support of their legislative colleagues. Funding students more equally ranks as one of the top achievements in Wisconsin’s pioneering school choice history.
“WCEF thanks Speaker Vos, Majority Leader LeMahieu and Governor Evers for their willingness to come to the table in good faith to fund students.”
The Wisconsin Coalition for Education Freedom includes six leading education, policy and advocacy organizations that share a unified voice on educational reform: Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), Americans for Prosperity (AFP) Wisconsin, Badger Institute, K12/Stride, School Choice Wisconsin/School Choice Wisconsin Action and Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL).
The education package includes increasing school choice funding from $8,399 to $9,500 per student in kindergarten through eighth grade; $9,045 to $12,000 per student in high school; $9,264 to $11,000 per student in charter schools; and $13,076 to $14,677 for students with disabilities who attend private schools.
