MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – applauded Gov. Tony Evers and legislative leadership for enacting legislation to increase investments in school choice.
SB 330 and AB 305, which received bipartisan support in the legislature and were signed into law by Gov. Evers on Tuesday, increase investments in the state’s school choice system, charter schools and the special needs scholarship – creating more opportunity for families to choose the best education for their children. The bill passed with bipartisan support in both houses.
“Thank you to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu and Gov. Evers for coming to an agreement on this forward-looking investment,” said WMC Senior Director of Workforce, Education & Employment Policy Rachel Ver Velde. “Wisconsin’s business climate is dependent on education systems producing students with the hard and soft skills necessary to contribute to the workforce. This bipartisan legislation ensures that choice and charter schools are more equitably funded and therefore able to equip more students for Wisconsin’s workforce.”
The education package includes increasing school choice funding from $8,399 to $9,500 per student in kindergarten through eighth grade; $9,045 to $12,000 per student in high school; $9,264 to $11,000 per student in charter schools; and $13,076 to $14,677 for students with disabilities who attend private schools.
