Biden EPA’s New Air Standard is Devastating to Manufacturing and the Economy

MADISON – President Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the PM2.5 rule on Wednesday that would make significant changes to National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter, resulting in devastating economic consequences and exponentially higher costs for employers. Following the release of the new rule, WMC Executive Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley released the below statement:

“The Biden EPA’s PM2.5 rule will turn much of Wisconsin’s industrial base into a ‘no-grow’ zone. The rule is a manufacturing job killer that will force high-paying manufacturing jobs overseas. The reality is that Wisconsin has some of the cleanest air in the world, and imposing billions of additional dollars in regulatory costs will hurt middle class families without improving the environment.

“Manufacturers already pay over $29,000 per employee to comply with federal regulations, and this new rule will make it exponentially more expensive. That means manufacturers will have fewer resources to invest in higher wages, new jobs and their local communities.

“With this rule, President Biden has commenced a direct assault on Wisconsin’s largest economic sector and turned his back on hard-working factory workers.”
