WMC Applauds Senate for Passing REINS Act

MADISON – The Wisconsin State Senate passed Senate Bill 15 on Tuesday – better known as the REINS Act. Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC) has been as strong advocate for this legislation to rein in unelected bureaucrats.
The REINS (Regulatory Executives in Need of Scrutiny) Act ensures the public has a say in the rulemaking process. This bill requires legislative approval for any rule promulgated by a state agency that will have an economic impact of $10 million or more over a two year period.
After the bill passed, WMC General Counsel & Director of Environmental and Energy Policy Lucas Vebber released the following statement:
“Today is a great day for government accountability. The State Senate took a huge step forward to hold unelected bureaucrats accountable,” said Vebber. “SB 15 is a landmark regulatory reform that shows Wisconsin continues to lead the nation in government accountability. We thank Senator LeMahieu for his leadership in getting this critical reform through the Senate.”
The REINS Act passed on a 19-14 vote along party lines, except for Republican Sen. Rob Cowles who voted with the minority party.
