MADISON –A permit issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will allow needed exploration to determine the geology of the ore deposit in Iron County and develop a responsible mining plan that will bring thousands of jobs to Wisconsin, a mining expert with the state chamber of commerce said Friday.
WMC Vice President of Government Relations Scott Manley, an expert on mining, said the DNR permit issued to Gogebic Taconite, LLC, will allow the company to gather data needed to develop a responsible mining plan in northern Wisconsin.
Manley said:
“The approval of this permit is a great first step. Whether you support mining or oppose mining, everyone should agree that doing this type of data gathering is important to the permitting process. This is the beginning of a long process that will ensure jobs are created in northern Wisconsin and statewide.”
