WMC Welcomes Mining Industry Back to Wisconsin

MADISON – Gov. Scott Walker signed the Mining for America Act into law on Monday, legislation authored by Rep. Rob Hutton (R-Brookfield) and Sen. Tom Tiffany (R-Hazelhurst). The Mining For America Act repeals Wisconsin’s two-decade long ban on metallic mining.
In response to today’s bill signing, WMC President and CEO Kurt Bauer released the following statement:
“This legislation will once again allow mining companies to begin the lengthy and extensive metallic mining permitting process. Metallic mining helped to build Wisconsin and the re-birth of this industry in our state can bring well-paying middle class jobs to rural Wisconsin.
Wisconsin has the manufacturers to supply the mining industry, the experts to safely manage mining operations and the skilled workforce to bring it all together. We thank Rep. Hutton, Sen. Tiffany and Gov. Walker for giving Wisconsinites the opportunity to benefit from this billion dollar industry.”
