On Wednesday, WMC Director of Environmental & Energy Policy Craig Summerfield, testified in support of legislation that would authorize businesses to offer EV (electric vehicle) charging stations while also preventing taxpayer-funded charging stations from unfairly competing with the private sector. WMC initially opposed SB 573 as introduced, because the bill authorized both state and local government-owned charging stations that were public-facing and could compete with private businesses. The amended proposal generally prohibits government-owned charging stations unless the charging stations are used to fuel government-owned fleet vehicles, and WMC supports the revised bill.
