WMC Advocates for Changes to Wetland Mapping Legislation

WMC testified in the Assembly Committee on the Environment and sought changes to pending legislation (AB 254) related to the mapping of wetlands. The proposed legislation would make permanent a DNR pilot program that created an “Assured Wetland Delineator,” a DNR-certified professional that maps wetland boundaries.

WMC generally supports the assured wetland delineator program, but raised concerns with the proposed complaint and investigation process created under the bill. The provision could undermine prior wetland boundary determinations and related permits, thus creating new uncertainty for businesses. WMC is working with the bill authors on a potential amendment to address this concern.
