MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber and manufacturers’ association – thanked the state Supreme Court on Wednesday for denying a request to hear a lawsuit directly that aimed to eliminate school choice and independent charter schools.
Following the Court’s announcement, WMC Senior Director of Workforce, Education and Employment Policy Rachel Ver Velde released the below statement:
“Today’s decision by the Court is a huge win for the thousands of Wisconsin families that rely on school choice and independent charter schools. If this lawsuit moved forward, it would have put the educational options that 65,000 students rely on at risk.
“The data shows that students in both choice and independent charter schools routinely have better academic outcomes than their public school counterparts. Not only would ending this program disrupt the education system in Wisconsin, it would result in far more students falling behind – something our state, our economy and our families cannot afford.”
