WMC Statement on Gov. Evers’ Proposed Budget

MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce President & CEO Kurt Bauer released the below statement on Wednesday following the introduction of Gov. Tony Evers’ 2023-25 State Budget proposal:

“Wisconsin’s business community will face many challenges in the coming years. A majority of employers believe we will enter a recession in 2023. Six in 10 are still battling double-digit inflation. And the biggest issue continues to be a workforce shortage that is leaving tens of thousands of jobs unfilled.

“Unfortunately, Gov. Evers’ budget proposal would make it more expensive to manufacture products in our state and reverse a number of critical reforms that have kept us economically competitive. Instead of punishing businesses for investing in our local communities, we should be looking for ways to boost our economy and significantly reduce the tax burden on hard-working Wisconsinites.

“WMC and our members look forward to working with the legislature and Gov. Evers on crafting a final budget that retains the full value of the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit, reduces and flattens the individual income tax and invests in programs that actually work to attract and retain a talented workforce.”
