Meg Ellefson interviewed WMC’s Senior Director of Workforce, Education & Employment Policy Rachel Ver Velde about the findings of WMC Foundation’s latest Education Reform poll.
Employers are growing increasingly concerned about how children are being educated.
“Our members are telling us that the kids that are coming out of the K-12 system are not ready for the workforce. They lack hard-skills; they lack soft-skills,” Ver Velde said. “And they really want competition in the education marketplace in order to have students graduate and be ready to start on the job day one.”
WMC supports closing the funding gap between public schools and choice/charter schools. The poll shows that 69% of Wisconsinites support narrowing that gap.
