WMC Statement on COVID-19 Legislative Proposals

MADISON – Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) President & CEO Kurt Bauer released the below statement following Gov. Tony Evers’ announcement of a legislative package in response to COVID-19 and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ call for new policy initiatives aimed at the virus:

“As COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths continue to rise in Wisconsin, it is both a public health and economic imperative that we all take critical steps to slow the spread of this virus. WMC continues to encourage all Wisconsinites to socially distance, wear a mask and wash your hands frequently. These small steps can help protect our coworkers, friends and families.

“While it is up to individual Wisconsinites to work together to slow the spread, our lawmakers in Wisconsin have shown a willingness to consider a legislative package in response to the virus. WMC encourages our elected officials to keep in mind the thousands of businesses and their employees who have been detrimentally impacted by COVID-19 and government-imposed restrictions.

“Wisconsin businesses need certainty so they can continue to operate safely and help our economy rebound. Any legislative package must incentivize work and discourage frivolous lawsuits. By ensuring our employers have a talented workforce and providing legal liability protections, lawmakers can help our economy recover and ensure a bright future for our state.”
